so this has been a policy that has skyrocketed during the obama administration. there have been now over 300 drone strikes in pakistan alone. thousands of people killed the amazing thing about it is how, one, we of been like to by people like john brennan, now the nominee for the cia, saying it had been almost no civilian casualties. and the other is how incredibly counterproductive this policy is because it is the best recruiting tool for al qaeda and the taliban. going to pakistan and feeling the visceral hatred toward the united states -- even here the foreign minister of pakistan when asked, why do three out of work consider the u.s. the enemy, she had a one word answer -- drones. this is calling millions of people, in fact, three out of four would be 100 billion pakistanis, to feel the u.s. is our enemy and hate us. i think the drone policy under the obama administration is making as less secure and is setting a precedent that says we can go anywhere we want, killing one we want on the basis of secret information. in the meantime, selling drones across the w

the goal of the obama administration, i think the goal of the international community, is to affect some kind of orderly transition. now, it's complicated by the fact that now a second envoy has been engaged after kofi annan's efforts, and both have found an intransigence on the part of the opposition to be willing to negotiate a departure. the russians have indicated, and i've had personal associations, which indicated a russian willingness to in fact see president assaad lead but they have a different sense of the timing and manner of that. our hope, my hope, would be that if confirmed and when i get in there, to have an ability to really take the temperature of these different players and get a sense of sort of where it is. we have to increase, i think, the ability of the opposition -- strike that. we have to increase the readiness of president assaad to see the die is cast, the handwriting is on the wall, and be willing to make the judgment that will save lives and hold the state together in a transition. >> thank you. if i might, in closing, it's my view that these admirable diploma

administration are funding it, mr. fortenberry and mr. speaker. it's something that has to end. we should be on the side of life and respect, not enabling --. . mr. fortenberry: people may not agree with us, but the vast majority of americans do agree that the government should not be entangled in this. in other words, taxpayer money should not be going for the provision of abortion. that's one bit of good news. the second bit of good news is, i think, again, those of us who have been here a little while, who have been in these trenches trying to beg and plead for an increase of awareness as to what the consequences of abortion are, young people are recognizing that, again, there's got to be a better way. they've lived with this through their generation. they've seen the scars, seen the wounds, seen the effects on society and they're coming forward and saying women deserve better. can't we be loving enough, can't we be big enough to do something different here? and i think that's a great sign of encouragement for two r

it was contested in court and the administration lost that fight. there is a question about how much obama will get behind that. yesterday he talked about climate change and other things. i think the next four years may be tough for energy producers. guest: natural gas has become so plentiful and prices have come down so much that is changing a lot of the economics of the energy industry. that plays right into the question of climate change policy. to the degree that natural gas which is cleaner than coal begins to replace coal as the primary fuel for power plants, that reduces carbon emissions. all of these things are sort of working together. the administration keeps pointing out that oil and gas production is higher than it has ever been and that is true as the economy comes back but there is an inherent tension between some of this energy policy and a job policy. that is one of the reasons why obama takes every opportunity he can to point out the clean energy proposal. the way politically the white house sees an opportunity to thread that needle
